Jackson’s Bay

• Why Visit? Jackson’s Bay is your top choice if you’re looking for a dog-friendly beach. It’s a quiet and secluded spot, ideal for a peaceful walk with your dog. Unlike the busier Whitmore Bay, this beach remains relatively uncrowded, giving your dog plenty of space to run and explore.
• Dog Policy: Dogs are allowed all year round.
• What to Expect: A mix of sandy areas and rockier patches where your dog can sniff and explore. You can also enjoy some calm water for paddling.
• Facilities: Basic facilities such as public toilets and parking are nearby, though they’re a bit more limited compared to the main beach areas. No lifeguards are present, so be mindful if you or your dog want to venture into the water.

The Old Harbour Beach (Watch House Bay)

• Why Visit? This beach is perfect if you want a more rugged, natural environment. It’s not as developed as the others, which makes it an excellent choice for quiet walks with your dog.
• Dog Policy: Dogs are allowed all year round.
• What to Expect: Old Harbour Beach has a more rugged, pebble- and rock-strewn shore, which is great for dogs who love sniffing around and exploring rock pools. It’s quieter than Jackson’s Bay and Whitmore Bay, offering a peaceful escape.
• Facilities: There are no formal facilities like cafes or toilets, so it’s ideal if you’re looking for a more “back to nature” experience with your dog.

Whitmore Bay Beach

• Why Visit? While this is Barry Island’s most popular beach, with plenty of activities and amenities, dogs are restricted during the summer season.
• Dog Policy: Dogs are not allowed between 1st May and 30th September. However, your dog is welcome from 1st October to 30th April, making it a good choice for autumn or winter visits.
• What to Expect: A large sandy beach, perfect for a long run with your dog during the off-season. You can still walk your dog along the promenade and explore nearby spots during summer.
• Facilities: Lifeguards in summer, cafes, ice cream stalls, arcades, and plenty of seating areas. If visiting off-season with your dog, you’ll have access to all the facilities while enjoying fewer crowds.

Cold Knap Beach

• Why Visit?  Is a beautiful spot to visit, especially if you’re looking for a more peaceful and quieter alternative to the bustling beaches on Barry Island.
• Dog Policy:  Dogs are allowed all year round.
• What to Expect: Known for its large, smooth pebbles rather than sandy shores, this beach stretches along Barry’s western coastline and is backed by a large open green space. At low tide, there are lots of rockpools to explore, too.
• Facilities:  Basic facilities such as public toilets and parking are nearby.
