About
Southerndown Beach, or Dunraven Bay Beach, is a west-facing sand and pebble beach popular with families and watersports. Due to its unspoilt scenery and remoteness, the beach has been used in films and TV series, including Doctor Who and Merlin.
When the tide is out, you have an excellent sand expanse and many rock pools, a good place to look for fossils amongst the rocks. The headland is Witches Point, designated under SSSI for geological importance.
There are many good dog walking coastal walks nearby, including the remains of Dunraven Castle and its walled garden.
Monknash Beach is backed by cliffs to the South, just over the headland that rarely has anyone on it, partly due to the steep cliff steps. Monknash Beach is an all-year dog-friendly beach, one of the largest in Glamorgan, but be careful, as tide conditions can cut you off from the steps.
Dog Access and Rules
Southerndown Beach has a dog ban between the 1st of May and the 30th of September each year.
