About
Bognor Regis is on the south coast of England, roughly halfway between Portsmouth and Brighton. Known for its long stretch of beach and traditional seaside attractions, it has been a favourite holiday spot since Victorian times.
The town gained royal recognition in 1929 when King George V visited to recover from an illness, earning the “Regis” in its name. Today, Bognor Regis blends its nostalgic seaside charm with modern amenities, making it an excellent spot for families and dog lovers.
Dog Access and Rules
Bognor Regis Beach is dog-friendly, but there are a few seasonal rules to be aware of. During the summer months, May 1st and the end of September, dogs are restricted from the main beach between Bognor Regis Sailing Club ramp to Gloucester Road on either side of the pier. However, the good news is that dogs are welcome all year round on the east and west sections of the beach. These areas provide plenty of space for them to stretch their legs, dig in the sand, and sniff out seaside treasures.
Things To See & Do
There is plenty to keep you and your dog entertained in and around Bognor Regis Beach. Enjoy a stroll along the dog-friendly sections of the beach, particularly at low tide when vast stretches of sand are revealed. It’s ideal for dogs to run and play.
A wide promenade backs the beach, and the town centre is easily accessible on foot.
The pier was built in 1865, and today, due to storm damage, it is much shorter than it was made and provides views back to the town and along the coast.
Access and Facilities
Bognor Regis is easily reached by car, train, or bus. It is located just off the A259 and has several car parks close to the beach. Look for Gloucester Road (PO21 1NX) or Rock Gardens (PO21 2LT) car parks for the most convenient access to dog-friendly areas.
The town is well-connected by train, with direct services from London Victoria, Brighton, and Portsmouth. The station is just a short walk from the beach. Local buses connect Bognor Regis with nearby towns like Chichester and Littlehampton.
Bognor Regis is a seaside town that is well-equipped with options to have a drink and something to eat.
