About
Porth Ledden Beach is located near the small village of St Just, far west of Cornwall, close to Cape Cornwall. This remote beach is part of the rugged Cornish coastline, known for its mining heritage and dramatic cliffs.
Dog Access and Rules
Porth Ledden Beach is dog-friendly all year round, with no seasonal restrictions. One word of caution is that this rugged beach disappears at high tide, making it more of a stop-off while on a Cape Cornwall dog walk rather than a beach trip.
Things To See & Do
The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles; during low tide, the rock pools along the shore become exposed. If you’re up for more adventure, you can take a scenic coastal walk along the South West Coast Path, which runs right past Porth Ledden with nearby Cape Cornwall, an excellent spot for a dog-friendly walk, with sweeping views and plenty of open space.
Like much of the area, the cliffs are dotted with the remnants of Cornwall’s mining history, which adds a layer of interest to any walk. One such point is the Kenidjack Valley, with the Tregeseal River joining the beach at the northern point, which includes multiple remains of mining structures.
Access and Facilities
Reaching Porth Ledden Beach is part of its charm, though it does require a bit of a walk. The beach is accessed via a footpath from Cape Cornwall, around a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest car park. The path is uneven and steep in places, so it’s best suited for those comfortable with a more rugged approach. The beach is quiet partly because it takes some effort to reach, making it all the more rewarding when you and your dog finally arrive. Parking is available at the Cape Cornwall National Trust car park, which is also the starting point for some good scenic coastal walks.
Porth Ledden Beach is a natural, unspoilt location, which means no facilities exist. The closest toilets are at the Cape Cornwall car park.
