About
Tintagel Castle is located on Cornwall’s rugged north coast and is linked with the legend of King Arthur. Not much of the castle is left standing, but the location is spectacular if you can cope with the many steps up to the headland. You can spend hours walking around the headland just imagining what King Arthur and Merlin would have got up to.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at Tintagel Castle and Tintagel Haven Beach, but please note there are many steps, cliff edges and nesting birds, so please keep them on short leads.
Water and dog ice cream are available at the cafe.
Things To See & Do
Tintagel Haven Beach is well worth the effort of the steps down. It is a small, dog-friendly beach below the headland that disappears at high tide, but it does have some sand/shingle, caves, and rocks to explore at lower tide levels. Merlin’s Cave passes under the headland and can be explored with caution at low tide, as it can fill with seawater when the tide comes in, so care should be taken when visiting.
Access and Facilities
Car parking is available in Tintagel village, and it can get very busy on nice days in the summer.
A cafe in the valley has a small amount of outdoor seating and serves light lunches, cakes and drinks. You have an English Heritage shop at the visitor centre selling gifts and souvenirs.
This is a very rugged and exposed coastal location with uneven paths and many steps.
