About
Boscastle is a picturesque village on the rugged North Cornwall coast, managed by the National Trust. Boscastle uniquely blends natural beauty, historic landmarks, and Cornish charm. The heart of the village is its natural harbour, surrounded by slate cottages and hills. This peaceful spot offers breathtaking coastline views with craggy cliffs.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at Boscastle. While many of the village’s attractions, shops, and cafes are dog-friendly, there are a few restrictions. Dogs must be kept on leads in some areas, particularly near the harbour and busy streets, and on the South West Coast Path, you have cliff edges and livestock in certain sections.
Things To See & Do
One of the best things about Boscastle is the variety of walks available. Highlights include:
- Boscastle Harbour – A stunning natural inlet that dates back to medieval times, where you can enjoy peaceful walks and watch fishing boats bobbing in the water.
- The quirky and fascinating Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. This museum is dog-friendly and filled with intriguing exhibits on folklore and witchcraft.
- Valency Valley – A beautiful, wooded valley perfect for a shady walk with your dog. This tranquil area follows the River Valency and offers plenty of spots for your dog to dip their paws in the water.
- South West Coast Path – Boscastle is a fantastic base for coastal walks, with several scenic routes leading to places like Tintagel Castle or Crackington Haven.
Access and Facilities
Boscastle is easily accessible by car, with parking available at the main visitor car park near the harbour. From there, it’s a short walk to the village centre. Public transport is limited, but local bus services connect Boscastle with Bude, Tintagel, and Wadebridge.
Several dog-friendly cafes and pubs are perfect for sitting with your dog while enjoying a Cornish cream tea or a refreshing pint of beer.
