Birling Gap has a spectacular beach that sits under the high white cliffs of the Seven Sisters. Well worth a visit and a splash for a rest or to cool down while walking either the Seven Sisters or eastwards to Beachy Head.
Dog Access and Rules
Birling Gap Beach is dog-friendly all year round, but one word of caution: this is not a walking beach, as the beach is made of large pebbles and rocks, which makes walking a little difficult. You also have 55 metal steps down to the beach.
The cafe and shop allow dogs on leads, and you have a water tap and water bowls for dogs.
Things To See & Do
A nice beach in a spectacular location, but it is hard to walk along as it has large pebbles and rocks. The best option is to use Birling Gap as a starting point for walks along the Seven Sisters or to Beach Head. The beach is then a good place to chill and splash between walks.
Access and Facilities
If you’re driving, the National Trust-managed car park is right next to the beach, free for National Trust members. The car park can get busy during peak times, so arriving early is best, especially on sunny weekends.
If you’re using public transport, buses from Eastbourne and Brighton stop on the road by the visitor centre.
Facilities include toilets, a dog-friendly shop, and a cafe that serves snacks and hot items like sausage rolls and Pasties.
