About
Seaford Head is a fantastic destination for a scenic walk with your dog. It offers breathtaking views and wide open spaces for both of you to explore. Situated just west of Seaford Beach, the 83-hectare Seaford Head Nature Reserve is known for its stunning chalk cliffs and proximity to the iconic Seven Sisters.
Seaford Head is part of the South Downs National Park and is home to some of the most dramatic coastal views in the UK. You’ll get an unbeatable panorama of the Seven Sisters cliffs and the English Channel. The area is rich in wildlife, so keep an eye out for birds, including kittiwakes, peregrine falcons, and wildflowers that bloom in the spring and summer.
The paths are well-maintained for dog walkers and lead through both open grasslands and along the cliff edge, making it an adventurous walk with plenty of room for your dog to explore. However, keeping your dog on a lead near the cliff edges is essential for safety, as some areas can be steep or unstable.
You can take several routes, depending on how far you want to walk. One popular option is the circular walk from Seaford Beach up to Seaford Head and back, which takes around two hours at a leisurely pace. Another option is to continue along the cliff-top paths towards Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters for a longer hike.
This walk is perfect for dogs that love to roam free in open spaces but always stay aware of livestock grazing in some parts of the reserve. Seaford Head also offers access to quieter beach stretches where dogs can paddle in the water or rest after the hike.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome, but please keep them under close control and clean up after them. This is a nature reserve, so you must keep your dog on a lead where livestock is grazing.
Access and Facilities
While there are no facilities directly at Seaford Head, the nearby Seaford Beach promenade has cafes and public toilets, and after your walk, you can grab a bite to eat at a dog-friendly pub or cafe in Seaford town, just a short walk away.
For those driving, parking is available at the Chyngton Lane, South Hill Barn car park, which is the closest car park to Seaford Head Nature Reserve. This is a great starting point for your walk, with signposted routes leading to the cliffs.
