About
Saltdean Beach is just outside Brighton and offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere than its bustling neighbours. The beach is known for its striking chalk cliffs, part of the South Downs, which stretch along the East Sussex coastline, providing a dramatic backdrop to your seaside visit.
Dog Access and Rules
Saltdean Beach is dog-friendly, but there are some seasonal restrictions. Between May and September, dogs are not allowed on the main beach area. However, just east of the main beach, you’ll find areas where dogs are welcome year-round, so you and your pet can still enjoy the seaside together.
Things To See & Do
One of Saltdean’s most notable landmarks is the Saltdean Lido, a Grade II listed building and one of the UK’s few remaining seaside lidos. While your dog might not be able to enjoy the lido itself, the historic charm of Saltdean adds a touch of nostalgia to your visit.
Saltdean’s shingle beach offers a lovely opportunity for beach play and walks with views of the cliffs and the open sea. If you want a longer dog walk, we recommend the Undercliff Walk, which connects Saltdean with Brighton Marina. This 5km (3 mile) path runs along the bottom of the towering white chalk cliffs.
Access and Facilities
Saltdean Beach is easily accessible by car, just off the A259 coast road. There’s a car park only a short walk from the beach. Regular buses from Brighton and other nearby towns stop near Saltdean, and if you’re travelling by train, the nearest station is Brighton, where you can catch a bus or taxi to Saltdean.
