About
Volk’s Electric Railway is a dog-friendly (on lead) railway that runs 1 mile east from the pier towards the marina. The railway has three stops; Aquarium Station by the pier, Halfway Station, no guesses in that it marks the halfway point and Black Rock Station, just a 5-minute walk from the marina. Tickets are flexible and you can get off and rejoin but if you were to go the whole way it takes about 12 minutes.
The railway was opened on the 4th of August, 1883 by the pioneering electrical engineer Magnus Volk. The railway was the first electric railway in the United Kingdom and is the world’s oldest operating electric railway.
The railway is seasonal, and you should check the website for train timetables.
