Visiting Morfa Dyffryn reserve and beach with your dog is a wonderful way to enjoy one of the most beautiful and dog-friendly spots along the Welsh coast. Located in Gwynedd, North Wales, Morfa Dyffryn is a stunning stretch of sandy beach backed by dunes, known for its scenic beauty and wildlife.
Dog-Friendly Policies
Dogs are allowed on Morfa Dyffryn Beach throughout the year. However, there are specific zones where dogs may be required to be on a lead or where access might be restricted, especially in areas designated for conservation or during bird nesting seasons.
You will need to keep dogs on leads during the bird breeding season, March – July.
Things To See & Do
Morfa Dyffryn offers a long, wide beach that stretches for several miles between Barmouth and Harlech. It’s perfect for long walks, playing in the sand, or even a dip in the sea if you and your dog are up for it. The beach is also known as Benar Beach which is the southern access point to the bigger Morfa Dyffryn dune system.
Behind the beach, there’s a significant dune system, which is part of the Morfa Dyffryn National Nature Reserve. Together with Morfa Harlech to the south, the two reserves form an almost continuous area of sand dunes along the coastline. This area is great for exploring and offers some protection from the wind.
The Morfa Dyffryn National Nature Reserve features not only the sand dunes themselves but also the seashore, salt marsh, and grassland habitats, each of which is home to an amazing diversity of wildlife. The area is rich in biodiversity, hosting various bird species and plant life, making it a fascinating place for nature lovers.
Access and Facilities
There is a car park close to the beach, from which it’s just a short walk to the sand.
Basic facilities, including toilets, are available near the beach. However, there are few amenities directly on the beach, so bring water, snacks, and any other essentials for both you and your dog.
Please note that part of the reserve is a designated naturist beach and is signed accordingly.
