About
Northchurch Common is one of the many Ashridge Commons, and out of all of them, it has the most open grassland for your dog to run around. You still have woods around the edge, and Northchurch Common merges with the main Ashridge Estate and Berkhamsted Common.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed on the common, but as with the wider Ashridge Estate, you need to be aware that you can meet deer.
During the ground nesting season from April to August, you will need to keep your dog on a short lead. Northchurch Common is an important habitat for ground-nesting birds like skylarks and meadow pipits.
Things To See & Do
Northchurch Commons is a great dog-walking location; just be aware of the deer and ground-nesting restrictions. You can spend anything from an hour stroll and cafe drink stop to a full day.

We like these Commons as they offer a slightly different perspective to the Ashridge Estate, which many people think of as woodland. Here, you get open grassland and some woods, but they feel a lot more open.
Access and Facilities
Multiple parking spaces along the road that mark the boundary. Just be careful when crossing onto the commons.
No facilities on the Commons itself other than the Hill Farm Cafe, which has a lovely garden and offers light snacks and dog treats.
