About
The Greyhound Inn in Aldbury is a quintessential English country pub and a delightful destination for those looking to enjoy traditional hospitality in a picturesque village setting.
Aldbury, with its charming duck pond and ancient stocks, is nestled at the foot of the Chiltern Hills on the edge of the beautiful National Trust Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire. The Greyhound Inn is an ideal stop for walkers, cyclists, and anyone exploring this scenic part of the country.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome in the bar and the outside courtyard, which is undercover but not in the restaurant area.
What's On Offer
It is a great location to add a beer stop or a home-cooked meal to a walk in the Ashridge estate or to explore the wider Chilterns. It offers a range of menus to suit all tastes, from extensive lunchtime and evening main menus to a delicious range of Sunday Roasts with all the trimmings. There is also a selection of puddings and children’s favourites.
The Greyhound also has accommodation, including a self-contained two-bedroom cottage. However, there is limited dog availability, so it is best to check directly.
Access and Facilities
Parking is usually available in the village but can be limited at weekends with nice weather. If you’re driving, consider arriving early, or you can do what we did and park at the Ashridge Monument and walk down to the village.

Sarah
There’s something magical about arriving in Aldbury with Lilly bouncing excitedly in the back seat, nose pressed against the window as the village pond comes into view. At 12 years old, Lilly may not sprint like she once did, but she still loves an adventure — especially when it involves woodland trails and a cosy pub afterwards.
Our favourite route starts near the village green, then heads towards the Ashridge Estate paths. The woodland is peaceful, full of birdsong, and shaded beautifully during warmer months. Lilly loves sniffing through the leaves while we take in the rolling countryside views.
After our walk, we always stop at The Greyhound for lunch. The staff are wonderfully dog-friendly, often bringing Lilly a bowl of water before we even ask. Their outdoor seating area overlooks the charming village surroundings and feels like the perfect countryside escape.
