Dymchurch Beach sits on Kent’s south coast and offers a broad, practical shoreline that is ideal for dog walking for much of the year.
At lower tide, large sandy stretches open up, giving dogs plenty of room to roam, sniff, and paddle. The sea wall and promenade sections also make it easy to keep walking when the tide is higher or when you have to avoid the seasonally restricted area.
The setting feels open and airy, with long views across the coast and a traditional seaside feel in the village behind the front.
Dog Access and Rules
While dogs are welcome on Dymchurch Beach, seasonal restrictions exist between the Martello Car Park and Sycamore Gardens from 1 May to 30 September.
Things To See & Do
Dymchurch Beach is a large sand/shingle beach near local amenities. The beach is backed by a large concrete sea defence and promenade, with steps down to the beach and disabled ramps in places.
You can enjoy a short beach leg, follow the promenade for an easier pace, or combine both for a longer route. At low tide, many dogs love the extra sandy space and shallows for splashing.
If you want to turn the walk into a half-day trip, it is easy to add refreshments in the village after the beach workout.
Access and Facilities
The concrete promenade has a selection of kiosks, and the central part of the beach has toilets, a slipway for boats, shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants from the town.
There are several parking options available near Dymchurch Beach, the Martello car park is the main one on the beach’s western end where seasonal dog restrictions end, or you can have a car park in the centre on the opposite side of the road to the beach.
