About
Marton Mere Nature Reserve sits just outside Blackpool, next to the holiday village of the same name. It’s a bit of a hidden spot, tucked away behind the noise of the seafront arcades and crowds. You wouldn’t think something that peaceful would be that close to the madness of Blackpool seafront, but there you go. Nature is doing its thing quietly in the background.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed at Marton Mere, which is excellent news if yours likes a proper good walk. But they must be on a lead in most parts, especially where the birds are nesting.
Things To See & Do
Marton Mere Nature Reserve is a designated Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and so the big draw is the nature. A massive lake in the middle, “the mere,” is packed with various bird breeds. The paths go all around the water, with some cutting through fields and woods and a couple of hides where you can sit and watch wildlife.
If you follow the right tracks, you can walk to the back of the reserve and end up near the zoo. There are also picnic benches, a good spot for a break while your dog has a lie-down.
Access and Facilities
Marton Mere Nature Reserve is easy to reach if you’re staying at the holiday village, and you can walk straight into it through a gate at the back. If you’re driving, head for Lawson Road in Marton, and you’ll have some parking on the road.
