About

Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at Chepstow Castle if they are kept on a lead. You and your dog can explore most of the grounds together, although they are restricted to ground floor levels of buildings.
Things To See & Do
Chepstow Castle is located in Monmouthshire, South Wales, overlooking the River Wye. This fortress boasts a fascinating history. It was initially built in 1067 by William Fitz Osbern, a key ally of William the Conqueror. Over the centuries, it has been expanded and adapted, playing a vital role during the Norman invasion and the English Civil War.
You can walk through the castle’s grounds, where you have three large open grass Baileys. Most castle buildings can be accessed at the ground level.
The castle runs events throughout the year, including re-enactments and falconry displays.
Beyond the castle, Chepstow also offers plenty of scenic riverside walks along the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. After your castle visit, you can head off for a peaceful stroll along the riverbanks, providing plenty of fresh air and exercise for your furry friend.
Access and Facilities
Chepstow Castle is easily accessible by car, with parking available nearby. The town of Chepstow is located just off the M48 motorway, making it convenient for visitors coming from both Wales and England. If you’re arriving by public transport, Chepstow has a railway station, and the castle is just a short walk from the town centre.
The castle has no food outlet but does have a gift shop.
