About
Hopton-on-Sea Beach is tucked between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. It’s a quieter spot than Gorleston or Yarmouth itself, and it doesn’t get packed even when the sun decides to make an appearance. If you’re after one of those UK dog-friendly beaches that’s peaceful and not overly regulated, Hopton works alright. Especially out of season when it’s just you, your dog, and miles of sea air.
Dog Access and Rules
The beach is dog-friendly all year round, but just one word of caution. As you can see from our photo, the beach has lots of wooden groynes and a defence line between the cliffs and the beach. This means you have an obstacle course and steps over the defences.
Things To See & Do
It’s not a fancy beach, but it’s got charm. Bit of sand, bit of stone, wooden groynes, cliffs behind you and open sea ahead. If your dog’s the sort that likes a paddle, the waves aren’t too rough. The beach runs for ages, so if you want to walk and think and let the dog wear itself out, you’ll be sorted here.
Cliff-top paths above the beach offer a stunning view, especially early in the morning. There’s also a small green space near the caravan park, featuring benches and a short path around its edge. Handy for a sniff-and-stretch before heading back to the car.
Access and Facilities
It is easy to find Hopton-on-Sea, but there is no car parking, so this beach is ideal if you’re staying in the nearby holiday parks or part of a coastal walk.
