About
Papa Westray, known locally as ‘Papay”, is one of Orkney’s smaller isles, at just 4 miles long by 1 mile wide, it is less busy than its bigger neighbours. Walking virtually anywhere on Papay is possible, with abundant wildlife, historical stone structures, churches, a castle and many sandy beaches.
It may well be small, but don’t underestimate how long it will take to explore.
The 206 hectares of maritime heathland and low-lying cliffs at the North Hill RSPB reserve have marked nature trails taking you past the Scottish primrose site and bird nesting areas.
Getting to Papay is easy with regular sailings from Westray and it has its own airport.
