Here’s what you can expect when visiting Goodwick Sands Beach with your furry friend:
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at Goodwick Sands Beach all year round, although a section of the north end of the beach imposes dog restrictions during the summer months between 1st May and 30th September.
Things To See & Do
Goodwick Sands Beach is a mix of sand and pebble areas, a grassy seafront area bordering the shore providing an interesting terrain for your dog to explore. The beach is relatively flat and has plenty of space for a leisurely walk.
If you want to walk away from the beach, you have a couple of choices. The first is the short breakwater walk, which has stunning water views out of this bay and back over the surrounding countryside. Alternatively, you can walk southwards along the promenade up into the cliffs towards Fishguard, where you’ll have plenty of benches, providing great views back over Goodwick Sands and the ferry port.
While in the area, look for dolphins and basking sharks, which can occasionally be seen off the beach and around the harbour.
This area has a historical aspect. In February 1797, an army of invading French ships attempted landing here when the weather stopped them from getting to Bristol. The invading army was disorganised, and after a couple of days of local skirmishes, they gave up and handed in their weapons at Goodwick Sands.
Access and Facilities
There are multiple car park areas, with the two main beach car parks at either end, but you also have options by the ferry port and at the supermarket over the road.
