About
This bay is steeped in history and is situated near the village of St. Donat’s. Overlooking the beach is St. Donat’s Castle, a medieval fortress. The coastline here is part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, celebrated for its unspoiled beauty and geological significance.
Dog Access and Rules
St. Donat’s Bay Beach is dog-friendly all year round.
Things To See & Do
This quiet bay, framed by rugged cliffs and pebbled beach, is a haven for those seeking a peaceful escape with their dog. Stroll along the pebbled beach or follow sections of the Wales Coast Path for breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel.
As this is hard to park, we believe this should be visited as part of a great coastal walk from Llantwit Major beach, passing Tresilian Bay. This is just over a 5km round trip, but you have to schedule time for a stop-off at Tresilian Bay and St. Donat’s Bay.
The castle is privately owned and is only open to the public on limited days – the UWC Atlantic Experience offers outdoor learning, education programmes, weddings, and events.
Access and Facilities
St. Donat’s Bay is accessible via minor roads, and limited parking is available nearby. As mentioned above, we recommend walking from Llantwit Major.
