About
Crackington Haven Beach is in the village of Crackington Haven, to the south of Bude. Positioned where the valley meets the sea, surrounded by cliffs, the beach feels dramatic, with a small cluster of cottages, cafes, and pubs nearby.
At high tide, the shoreline is shingle and rock, with waves breaking near the valley entrance. As the tide falls, the beach widens, revealing sand patches and striking rock formations stretching along the coast.
The cliffs around Crackington Haven are part of the spectacular folded geology which defines this stretch of North Cornwall.
Crackington Haven is a lovely mixture of village charm and rugged coastline. For dog owners, it offers a relaxed place to enjoy the sea, explore rock pools, and head out together onto the dramatic North Cornwall coast path.
Dog Access and Rules
Crackington Haven Beach allows dogs all year. However, from 15th May to 30th September, dogs are not allowed between 10 am and 6 pm. Outside these times, dogs are welcome across the beach.
During quieter periods, many dogs enjoy time off-lead, especially when the tide is low, and more of the beach is exposed. However, the beach can become busier during summer, so keeping dogs under close control around swimmers, surfers, and families is important.
The beach narrows at high tide, so check tide times before visiting.
Things To See & Do
Crackington Haven is ideal for dogs that enjoy a mix of beach exploration and coastal walking.
At lower tides, sand, rocks, and pools appear, giving curious dogs plenty to explore. Rocky areas are interesting but can be slippery.
The Atlantic surf here can be lively, making it a well-liked surfing spot. Dogs that enjoy water often love splashing in the shallows on calmer days, though strong waves mean it’s best to choose quieter conditions.
Above the beach, the South West Coast Path climbs onto the cliffs. Even a short walk offers sweeping coastal views.
For a longer dog walk, follow the coast path north or south for a rewarding stretch of dramatic Cornish scenery.
Access and Facilities
Despite its wild setting, Crackington Haven has good basic facilities thanks to the small village beside the beach.
Parking is available in a pay-and-display car park near the beach, and the beach is only a short walk away. You will also find a beach shop, a cafe, a pub, and seasonal lifeguards.
Access from the car park to the sand is generally straightforward, though the shoreline itself becomes rocky at high tide.
