PK Porthcurno tells the story of a world connected by cables. The tranquil valley of Porthcurno became the heart of global communications when telegraph cables from around the world came ashore at the cable hut on Porthcurno beach. Porthcurno Telegraph Station, or PK as it became known in telegraphic code, became the world’s most important station in the late Victorian era.
Telegraph operations ceased at Porthcurno in 1970, 100 years after it began.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at the PK Porthcurno Museum and Cafe year-round. The only part they can’t visit is the World War II bunker.

The museum itself tells the fascinating story of global communications, from Morse code and the first undersea telegraph cables through to modern fibre-optic technology. It’s interactive and engaging, rather than a museum you simply walk around looking at old exhibits.
What really makes it work as a dog-friendly day out, though, is the location. Once you’ve explored the museum, you can head straight out into the beautiful Porthcurno Valley, wander around the gardens and pick up the South West Coast Path, which runs just metres from the museum. Porthcurno Beach is also right on the doorstep, although seasonal dog restrictions apply from May to August
For us, that’s what makes PK Porthcurno worth a visit with your dog — you get an interesting museum experience, a dog-friendly cafe and some spectacular Cornish scenery all in one outing. It’s easy to turn a couple of hours at the museum into a much bigger adventure around one of the most beautiful stretches of the Cornish coast.
Access and Facilities
Parking is available in two car parks at the bottom of the Porthcurno Valley. These are the main parking areas for the PK Porthcurno, as well as for visitors heading to Porthcurno Beach and the South West Coast Path.
The cafe serves light bites, barista-made coffee, and cakes, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. Koffi PK is also located in the Porthcurno Beach car park for quick takeaways.
