About
Porthoustock Beach is located in a small fishing village on the Lizard Peninsula. This can’t really be described as a picturesque Cornish cove, as it is a grey pebble-and-sand beach surrounded by old quarries and the odd fishing boat pulled ashore.
You will notice in the beach picture above, the enormous concrete silo at the end of the beach. Now disused, this was used to store aggregate from the quarry. Whilst at the other end of the beach is a quay used by the quarry to load aggregate onto boats.
The beach is a popular launching beach for divers as Porthoustock’s proximity to The Manacles, a set of treacherous rocks by Manacle Point, means that it has lots of shipwrecks.
