About
Beaulieu is a historic New Forest estate and visitor attraction centred around the National Motor Museum, Palace House and riverside grounds, set in a village and landscape that work well for thoughtful dog days out. Dogs are not allowed inside all attractions, but with the right planning, you can still enjoy the estate, village and surrounding walks with a dog.
In practice, most dog‑friendly time here will be spent in the village, riverside areas, nearby walks, and dog‑friendly eating spots, with humans taking turns if some of the group want to explore indoor attractions.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome at Beaulieu and are permitted within the grounds, but for the benefit of other visitors, they must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. Dogs are allowed in the Brabazon Restaurant, the shop, and the visitor reception.
Dogs are not allowed, with the exception of service dogs, inside the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Abbey, On Screen Cars, the Secret Army Exhibition, or on any of the rides.
Things To See & Do
The village itself offers riverside greens, historic buildings, tearooms and pubs, making it a pleasant place to wander on lead.
Short strolls around the millpond, along the river and through the village streets give dogs plenty of sniffing opportunities without committing to a longer hike. Estate paths are well-maintained and clearly defined, making route-finding easy and keeping walking relaxed.
The riverside route towards Buckler’s Hard is one of the most popular options, following the Beaulieu River. The 2-mile route mixes riverside and woodland sections, offering shade on warmer days and shelter in breezier weather, with dogs generally expected to be on lead to protect wildlife and livestock.
Plan your day so that “humans‑only” attractions (like the National Motor Museum or seasonal Palace House events) fit around your dog’s needs, with one person staying outside if necessary.
Access and Facilities
The village and estate have car parking, shops and places to eat and drink.
