About
Jersey Marine Beach is a long sandy beach backed by Crymlyn Burrows, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The area is nestled between industrial sites and the busy Swansea Docks and Port Talbot industry.
Jersey Marine Beach is a long, wide, sandy beach, particularly at low tide, that stretches from the River Neath estuary to Swansea Docks. It is generally quiet, partly because access is less straightforward than at other local beaches.
The tide can go out over a mile, which means mud can be hazardous, and by the river estuary, you can get some strong currents.
Crymlyn Burrows is a 1,000-acre (400 ha) area, rare on an industrial, built-up coastline. It is a protected nature reserve featuring a diverse range of habitats, including sand dunes, a salt marsh, and carr woodland, and is home to the rare Fen Orchid.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed on the beach but must be on leads in the dunes.
Access and Facilities
Access to the beach can be difficult in places. At the western end of the beach is Swansea University’s Bay Campus, with facilities such as shops, cafes, and toilets.
Parking is difficult, as most campus parking is permit-only, with only a small pay-and-display SSSI area on Elba Cres off the A483 (Fabian Way), followed by a walk down a footpath. Public transport is an option too, with buses running along the main road.
