About
The Horseshoe Inn in Levisham is a lovely pub to end a walk with your dog. This is an authentic village inn, so you can expect cask ales, a good wine list and a menu of classic dishes, the kind of food that feels right when you’ve been out in wind and weather rather than something fancy for the sake of it. There’s usually a decent choice for both lighter lunches and bigger evening meals.
For dog owners, the big moor walk, quiet village, and good pub are exactly why The Horseshoe Inn works so well as a post‑walk stop.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed in the bar area or the outdoor areas. It’s the usual country‑pub common sense: keep your dog on a lead, tuck them under or beside the table, and try to avoid peak times if your dog struggles with busy spaces or other dogs nearby.
Things To See & Do
Levisham sits right in the North York Moors National Park, so the pub naturally ties into routes around Levisham Moor, the Hole of Horcum and Newtondale. You can do a circuit out over the open heather, drop into the valley to watch the heritage steam trains in the distance, and then climb back up to the village for a pint and something to eat.
From a practical point of view, it’s wise to keep your dog on a lead through the village and on the narrow lanes near the pub, as cars do appear suddenly and there’s not much verge in places.
Access and Facilities
Levisham is reached on a hill road up from the A169 between Pickering and Whitby, and the village feels pleasantly out of the way once you’re up there. Parking is on‑street around the village and close to the pub.
