About
The Plume of Feathers is a traditional Cornish coaching inn in the village of Mitchell, a few miles inland from Newquay. It combines the feel of an old country pub with comfortable surroundings and a more food-focused approach than many local inns.
Its location just off the A30 makes it an easy stop if you’re travelling to or from the Newquay area, and it’s a good, relaxed base between beach visits and countryside walks. The setting is quieter than the coast, which can be a welcome change after busy days by the sea.
With a pleasant atmosphere and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, it’s an easy place to pause with your dog for a meal or drink.
Dog Access and Rules
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in our bar and outside areas.
If you are looking for a place to stay, they have some dog-friendly rooms. An extra charge per dog, per night, will apply, with a maximum of two dogs per room. Your dog will have their own doggy bed, blanket, bowl and dog welcome pack waiting for them on arrival.
What's On Offer
Food is a strong point here, with a menu that leans towards contemporary British pub cooking using local Cornish ingredients. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for something more substantial than a quick snack.
Drinks include: local Cornish ales and beers, wines and spirits, soft drinks, tea and coffee.
It works particularly well for a proper sit-down meal after a day of walking, rather than just a quick stop.
Things To See & Do
Although not directly on the coast, The Plume of Feathers sits within easy driving distance of several excellent dog-walking beaches around Newquay.
Beaches such as Holywell Bay, Crantock and Porth Joke can be reached within 15–20 minutes by car, making it easy to combine a pub visit with a beach walk.
The surrounding countryside also offers quieter village walks if you want a gentle outing before or after eating.
Access and Facilities
There is on-site parking, making it easy and hassle-free to arrive with a dog.
Indoor seating in the dog-friendly bar area is useful on rainy days, while the beer garden offers a relaxed outdoor option in warmer months.
